I think it depends on what you want to add or take away from the soup. If it’s on the salty end of the spectrum, a cool crema or sour cream would be great, with chives or scallions or a fresh herb? I am also obsessed with making cornbread, and turning it in to croutons, for both crunch and texture. I can’t eat chilli anymore without them!

This is a peasant soup so the standard garnishes would mostly be something like a chopped fresh herb, possibly a blob of dairy (sour cream, mascarpone, etc.), sprinkling of croutons. As peasant food, there isn't a long and established tradition of elaborate decoration for this genre of soups and stews.

You could try something like a colorful dice of vegetables (tomatoes, peppers, etc.) but sometimes I feel those are a bit contrived (trying too hard). A more modest, peasant-like garnish would seem more appropriate in my eyes.

Instagram, Pinterest, etc. are full of photos of tarted up, over-the-top food plating ideas. Pick one, pick several, pick none. Your call.

Ultimately it's your palate and your dinner table. The point is to make something that appeals to you and those who will be joining you at your table.

Best of luck.
