Herbs substitute? Can you use dried herbs for this recipe?

Has anyone done this with dried herbs? I have everything else but only dried basil and thyme and not sure if it will be the same.

Another idea - since both basil and thyme are in the mint family, you could use a mixture of those herbs if they are easier and/or less expensive to get. King list - look it up but examples include rosemary, savoury, mint, lemon balm.

Auto incorrect wrote “king list.”
Should have read: long list

You know, I haven't made this recipe specifically- but I do make homemade tomato soup fairly frequently and I mostly use dried herbs. I live in a northern state and fresh herbs are not always easily obtained and never are inexpensive. I find that I can use about half of the amount of fresh that is called for. Seasoning is a matter of personal taste anyway, and "bunches" vary in size, so feel free to use your dried herbs and season to suit your self. I would probably go with a heaping teaspoon of both dried herbs, and adjust again when finishing if needed. To answer your question, no- it probably won't be quite the same as with fresh herbs. But it will be tastier than what you get in a can, and taste wonderful in it's own right. It's a recipe, not the stone table of Ten Commandments.

Good point. I might just go to the store to make it the best way possible. I feel like I wouldn’t add the dried herbs either to the oven process as they might be quicker to burn.
