Oops - Fennel left outside, is it ok?

Question

I guess when I unloaded my groceries, a fennel bulb fell out and it was there overnight. Is it ok to use? (There’s also the fact that it was basically on the street - I would take off the outer layer and wash. Is that too gross?)

I would wash it and cook it. After all, it grows outdoors in temperature climates.

And the fennel one buys at farmers markets probably was harvested several days earlier. Nothing is going to happen overnight.

My husband says definitely too gross and it’s getting tossed, haha
