What is kinkaku? I googled it but all I get is anime characters.

Ah! Then yes, I think so--MasterClass has a mochi recipe where they use 1/4 cup kinako + 1T sugar for the dusting: https://www.masterclass.com/articles/kinako-recipe. Bet it'll be delicious!
