Not really a food pickle but a Food52 pickle. Is there any way to organize recipes within "My recipes" or to search through course?

Actually you can search for recipes by cook now in the full recipe database simply by typing the name of the cook into the search box . . . a workaround I figured out last year when I discovered the severe limitations on the saved recipe functionality. Now, I just try as hard as I can to remember who posted a recipe that I like. It works like a charm. My point is that this should not be hard, if you import/adapt your search technology for the full database into the saved recipe subset. ;o) P.S. I almost never "save" recipes anymore on food52. Instead I print to PDF, which makes them searchable using my own tools. This actually goes to another point, which is that the reason food52 doesn't have that many people regularly or widely using the saved recipe feature may be related to its lack of functionality.

I'm so happy to hear this might be in what I am sure is a very long and full pipeline.

Boulangere, what a great idea -- sorting by recipe author! I'm ashamed to say it never even occurred to me.

I LOVE the different sort options. Perhaps one for recipe author? I tend to save several of those written by a somewhat few authors.

Lori, these would be notes that may or may not be something you want to share and notes you could leave on any recipe, not just the ones you create. So the Headnotes really are not the place to put them. Regardless, glad you like the idea.

I love the idea of #4--to be able to annotate. I guess right now we could go in our headnotes and add these...but something I have always done with my cookbooks is to write a litle something about who the dish was for/ what occasion...any substitutions/disasters/successes and i date it. with some of my favorite recipes, you will read several notations/descriptions. I do this because there are few things more precious than seeing my grandmother's elegant script in her old cookbooks...I just added the extra "liner notes"

I think just a simple way to organize and sort. Maybe adding tag functions to recipes so that we could use them as a search tool. And people could submit recipes with the course or vegetarian, vegan, etc, descriptions so that in our recipe boxes users could choose the classification system we thought was helpful for us, whether it is by date or by type of dish or by cook.

I'm surprised that I'm a power user! But it is true that I am using this site more and more, especially when I'm planning meals at work. Thank you for responding.

And just to get the ball rolling to Jeneric's question, the two improvements we definitely have in mind are:

1) the ability to search your saved recipes

2) the ability to see subsets of your saved recipes by the 19 recipe categories we already have on the site,

3) the ability to sort the recipes by date added to your list (right now they're in the order in which the recipes were added to Food52)

and possibly

4) the ability to annotate each recipe you have on the list... such as "would be great for Eric's birthday party" or "made it & loved it."

What else would you like to see?

Hi jeneric -- once we do get time to revamp My Recipes, what sorts of improvements would you like to see?

Jeneric-

At the moment, there's no way to organize your saved recipes. Giving you the ability to do so is on our list and should get tackled... eventually.

Personally, I'd like to get to it sooner, but in looking into it, fewer than 1,000 users have more than 20 saved recipes. As much as I'd prefer to do nothing but projects that benefit our "power" users, we have to spread our time around and work on features for everyone else as well. :-/

And just to give you a sense of how much of a power user you are, I peeked -- there are only 139 users who have saved more recipes than you. Thanks so much for being such a devoted Food52 user. :-)
