If you want to freeze it because you seldom use it, try putting it in ice cube trays, or small storage containers first. Then you will have recipe size amounts ready to use. Otherwise, when you defrost it you'll have the same problem.

Gosh, if it's only a quart, use it up! Make yogurt. Make bread or dinner rolls and sub milk for the liquid.

Depends on the amount of head space. I have frozen milk in 1/2 gallons with no disasters.

In the carton? No. It will expand as it freezes.
