A question about a recipe: Braised Pork Belly Tacos with Watermelon, Jicama & Jalapeño Salsa

I have a question about the ingredient "allspice" on the recipe "Braised Pork Belly Tacos with Watermelon, Jicama & Jalapeño Salsa" from a la Alison. Is the allspice in the brine whole berries or ground?

The brine doesn't contain allspice. The allspice gets sprinkled on the strips of pork belly in step 5 (so I assume it's ground.)
