Mediterranean Meatball Tacos with Tzatziki, Feta andĀ Arugula

The tacos are a fusion of traditional Greek and Mediterranean flavors with the convenience of a taco. Throw these on the taco bar at your next party to mix things up a bit! —ChefAbilities

Ingredients
  • For the meatballs:
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup red onion, small dice
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano (Mexican preferred)
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 8 flour tortillas
  • 1 recipe Tzatziki sauce (see below)
  • feta cheese, crumbled
  • arugula
  • fresh dill, chopped for garnish
  • Tzatziki Sauce
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/2 cucumber, peeled, seeded and minced or grated
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
Directions
  1. For the meatballs:
  2. In a large mixing bowl, mix the ground beef with the next 9 ingredients. Shape into 24 small meatballs (approximately 1-inch diameter).
  3. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake at 375 degrees for 20 - 25 minutes, or until done.
  4. In the meantime, heat flour tortillas on a comal or in a heavy skillet. Keep warm.
  5. Serve 3 meatballs in a flour tortilla. Top with Tzatziki sauce, crumbled feta cheese, arugula and fresh dill.
  1. Tzatziki Sauce
  2. Mix all ingredients and refrigerate until ready to use. This sauce is better if made the day before to allow flavors to develop.
