Meet the Winner of Your Best Recipe Cooked Over a Fire

by:
August  3, 2016

The votes are in from our Your Best Recipe Cooked Over a Fire Contest—and you named Mojo Chicken the winner! A huge congratulations to cooksandkid. Here's a little more about them (a husband-and-wife duo):

What's your least favorite food?
Phil: Anything rose-flavored
Dominique: Raisins

What's one recipe that's been on your bucket list for a while? Why?
It's a Korean noodle dish. Buckwheat noodles, white kimchi broth, cucumber, carrots, sesame seeds, and gochujang. It's eaten ice-cold. We don't even remember what it is called, but we saw it on Kimchi Chronicles and thought we have to find some way to make it. It seems like such a great balance of flavors. Salty, sweet, sour, and spicy. We love combinations of different flavors.

Describe your most spectacular kitchen disaster?
We would both agree it was trying to roll a stuffed porchetta that wasn't butterflied properly, so it made for a very awkwardly shaped porchetta. Trying to roll it and tie it was painful. It tasted great, but looked horrible!

What is your idea of comfort food?
Phil: Macaroni and cheese
Dominique: Anything that reminds me of my childhood.

“That chicken looks great--I'm definitely going to give it a go and will leave a comment on the recipe page. And you already know this, but the kid part of your team is the cutest! Congratulations to the whole family.”

Apron or no apron?
No apron!

What ingredient (or cooking tip/trick/recipe) have you been excited about lately?
Adding finely chopped crimini mushrooms to ground meat for burgers. The mushrooms add flavor, but more importantly keep the burgers super juicy and tender!

What do you make when you're only cooking for yourself?
Cacio e pepe. So simple and we always have the ingredients on hand.

Summertime ice cream store order: Go!
Phil: Coffee-Heath bar
Dominique: Cookies and cream
