20 Genius Soup Recipes (with Smartypants Tricks from Cookbook Authors & Chefs)

February 22, 2017

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ... soup, apparently? I'm a fan of giving the people what the people want (see also: genius chicken and weeknight dinner shortcuts) and "soup" is one of the most searched-for terms on Food52 (this winter it was #2, right behind "cookies," so you're not always so sensible). Here are 20 genius recipes for soup, full of classics like hot and sour and cheesy broccoli, and plenty of unexpected winners, too. And here's one for cookies, to seal the deal.

Got a genius recipe to share—from a classic cookbook, an online source, or anywhere, really? Perhaps a genius dessert? Please send it my way (and tell me what's so smart about it) at [email protected].

I'm an ex-economist, lifelong-Californian who moved to New York to work in food media in 2007, before returning to the land of Dutch Crunch bread and tri-tip barbecues in 2020. Dodgy career choices aside, I can't help but apply the rational tendencies of my former life to things like: recipe tweaking, digging up obscure facts about pizza, and deciding how many pastries to put in my purse for "later."
