14 Pies for All Those Mathletes Celebrating a Certain Never-Ending Number

March 14, 2018

I was never a fan of math class, with its concrete “right” and “wrong” answers—I preferred the subjectivity of writing essays or interpreting a novel. But there was one day every year where I looked forward to talking about numbers: Pi Day.

Probably dreamed up by a hungry mathematician, Pi Day celebrates the mathematical constant π—the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. Pi is an irrational number whose digits trail on forever without repetition or pattern, but my middle and high school math teachers celebrated its first three digits, 3.14, on (you guessed it) March 14th. And how did those mathletes party? With pie, of course.

Here, I’ve gathered 14 of our prettiest pies—for both math-lovers and those right-brained people (like me) who just love to eat.
