Butter is really an amazing, magical ingredient. It’s a delicate tango of fat and water, two things that shouldn’t mix, but do. The fat carries flavor and convects heat, while the water provides lift, tenderness, and shattering crispness in baked goods.

In celebrating butter’s unique powers in cooking (and its deliciousness, to boot), our latest recipe contest theme, Your Best Recipe Starring Butter, is all about dishes that would simply not do without the stuff. We want to know that recipe you make when you're looking to enrobe your dinner guests in a butter-rich hug.

And this time around, the winner will not only receive bragging rights, but a real-life prize! Stay tuned for the big reveal.

Submissions are now open, until Mar. 1 at 6 p.m. ET. A few ground rules:

  • This contest is all-butter, all the time. Recipes that like, love, and gotta have butter. We’re looking for submissions that use at least 1 stick; save the less-buttery recipes for something else.
  • Yes, ghee is totally fair game. You'll need to use at least 1/2 cup.
  • Your submission doesn’t have to be a dessert. It can be savory, a side, or even a drink (your brand-new take on a hot buttered rum, perhaps!)—whatever recipe you feel best expresses butter, big-time.

How to Enter

If you have a recipe already on the site, go to that recipe page, hit "Edit Recipe" (under the photo), scroll down, hit "Submit my recipe to a contest," select the latest contest ("Your Best Recipe Starring Butter"), and save.

If you want to add a new recipe, head to your own profile page, select "Recipes," click "Add a Recipe," upload it, hit "Submit my recipe to a contest," select the latest contest, and save.

We read every submission and test as many as possible. But that’s a lot of reading and a lot of testing. We’re counting on you to help, too. Peruse the submission pages and make (and favorite!) any recipe that catches your eye. Then, share feedback on the recipe page. We take all this feedback into account as we narrow down to the top five, which will be announced in mid-March.

May the butteriest competitor win!

Not my recipe, but I'd highly recommend Mrs. Mehitabel's Brown Butter Pecan ice cream from this site, which uses the solids from 1/2 lb. of brown butter to flavor about a quart of ice cream.
