Joanna Gaines, queen of shiplap, Waco and HGTV, has added a jewel to the crown that is her ever increasing lifestyle empire. Just last weekend, her new cooking television show, Magnolia Table with Joanna Gaines, premiered on the Food Network.

The series features Gaines anchored behind the counter of her immaculately decorated and sun-drenched kitchen, cooking and explaining her way through a repertoire of favorite recipes. According to her website, spending time in the kitchen has been a boon to Gaines during stressful times. “Nothing about the way I cook is fancy or complicated, but over the years the kitchen has become such an important space for me, so it’s an honor to cook alongside you as we make some of my favorite recipes,” she writes.

For now, the show can be watched on Food Network and is streaming via Discovery+, but later this year will transition to Magnolia Network, the Gaines’ very own television platform, where it will be joined by other shows like their up-and-coming home renovation series, Fixer Upper: Welcome Home. Magnolia Table sees Gaines returning to television for the first time in two years since the last season of HGTV’s Fixer Upper, the show she stars in alongside her husband Chip. The two are at the helm of a lifestyle empire that spans restaurants, products, online content, and TV shows.

On the show’s premiere episode, Gaines prepared nostalgic dishes from her childhood. Citing her Lebanese heritage and afternoons spent in her grandfather’s kitchen, she shared recipes for fatayar (meat filled pies), a fresh salad, baklava, and a white bean hummus. All the recipes she prepares can be found online here. In the second episode she features her favorite Thanksgiving style dishes (think casserole and green beans!) and for the third, a fettuccine alfredo and tiramisu. More episodes are slated to premiere later this year.

This show is boring. The kitchen is swoon worthy but Joanna’s recipes and delivery are snooze worthy. Not a good combination. I will not be tuning in again.

I agree with other comments about her elemental baking skills, I want to see recipes that stretch my imagination and increase my skill level. Besides, I refuse to watch or participate in anything she does, knowing she and her husband go to an anti-LGBT, anti-same sex marriage church. There are some things I can overlook, but that is not one of them.

This is sad and discouraging. Wealth and beautiful faces once again bring no credible insight or appreciation for cuisine. The lifestyle concept is entirely detracting and shouldn't be a prerequisite for inspiring a great dinner. More to the point, what can Joanna Gaines do with an aluminum pot, a cast iron fry pan, and a wooden spoon? I have a lifestyle, I don't need another one! I just want to know more about seasonal good food.

Very disappointing. Why does the Food Network give cooking shows to stars who ply a different trade but think of themselves as "chefs" as well (Trisha Yearwood, Valerie Bertinelli, Joanna Gaines)? Could it be the money these people bring in because their fans will watch them do ANYTHING? Joanna Gaines should have stuck with shiplap. Not only does she not know how to operate that $50K La Cornue stove, but her skills and recipes are elemental, unimaginative, no challenge to even a 5th grader. This program is a true waste of time for those interested in the culinary arts. Of course, the cookbooks and other dismal wastes will complement the focus on this empire-building company. Cancel.

Watched first few episodes. Show is very basic, and boring. No one has a 50,000+ stove in there kitchen, who is she appealing to? Maybe having Chip on would help.

Oh NOOOooooo! Chip turns everything into The Chip Show. We already have Guy Fieri.
