My mother use to use wax paper to line the botton of a cake pan then when it was done turn the cake pan unside down and just peeled it off perfect … of course long ago , i dont think anyone does that any more

I have put wax paper in the oven because my recipe said do that. The cake turned out fine and the wax paper did not smoke or burn.

"And if it makes you feel better, the paper used to be dipped in earwax. Yes, literal earwax. "

Wax paper is fine in the microwave, as a splatter guard or a loose holder. Microwaves don’t penetrate surface areas to melt the wax in short times. Anything under 10 minutes you should be fine

I don’t think I’ve ever put it in the oven but I use it to line the cans I put cookies in and tubs that I put food in. In my world it is cheaper usually than parchment so I also use it for rolling things out as well.

I love this topic. I use wax paper to wrap leftover cooked pie, sometimes putting plastic film or tin foil over the wax paper--wax paper keeps the cooked pie crust flaky and crisp. Plastic wrap, on the other hand, makes baked pie crust get soggy.
