How does this list and the honorable mentions not mention Three Musketeers, Milky Way, or 100 Grand!? Peppermint Patties? I feel like there's those that err on the side of sugar-based candy and those that opt for more chocolate-based Halloween candy and I am definitely the latter ;-)

I use to work for Large candy company as a sales rep. I can't believe that you recommend candy that all have one thing in common Corn Syrup. Should be put in candy highly processed.

Almost in total agreement with you, especially 1-5. Only difference is I would have had Hershey milk chocolate high up there, and I could never put Smarties on my reject list. They would be in the top ten also. C’mon, you get a whole roll and they dissolve in such an interesting way. I recommend you revisit them.

Love candy corn(esp seasonal harvest corn). How else can you make a candy corn Stonehenge? Recipe on this site.

Sorry, but I simply don't like Peanut Butter and chocolate together. Never have, even as a kid! (Yeah, I know - Gasp!!) Don't want to see Twizzlers either. I'm pretty much on board with all the other choices, though.

Chocolate candies reigned for Boomer, Gen X, and leading half Millennial kids. Since then, chocolate has lost its crown - on my Hallowe'en destination street, it's all-sugar candies that have been getting hoovered by kids faster than chocolate candies for at least 15 years. My big bowl of all-sugar candies invariably is wiped out before the bowl with mixed candies including chocolate. Peers of mine confirm this pattern elsewhere.

That may be why you can't find chocolate-only bags of Halloween candy any more, other than the Hershey's chunks. The mostly chocolate assortments this year include Starbursts. ;o)

This is fascinating. Every year the kids in our neighborhood gobble up the chocolate candies and leave the Starbursts, Smarties, Gummies, and other sugary stuff in the bucket. After 6-8 months, I pitch those, since no one in our family will eat them. I always figured that the sugary/sweet and sour/ or gummie candies were the stuff kids traded their perfectly good packed school lunches for, and the chocolate candies were what made for good Halloween candy. We'll see what happens this year! And yes, I am a Boomer.

I see tons of chocolate type candy where I am-some of the fruity based mixtures too but more chocolate
