You are a brave man, my friend. I hope it didn't get too far up your leg before it let go with the stinger! Lovely story, as always.

I don't ever want to get stung. Glad you got the queen. Harrowing story, Tom, but sweet, nonetheless. That tart looks delicious and healthy!

Hilarious! As an ex-beekeeper, I know the drill. Crazy drive is right. Lovely story, lovely recipe, thanks Tom!

Seriously? Did you get the bee out?! I have a kind of hilarious image of you dancing around in the field trying to get your pants off to get the bee out. Worth it to keep the queen though, eh? Also, you are clearly a very cool dad. My dad would never, ever have driven crazy. (But then, my mom drove a little crazy without even trying...)

Due to a serious allergy, I can never be a beekeeper, but I love hearing your stories!
The tart sounds fantastic--I've never seen a recipe like that before. I'm on a huge granola kick, so I will definitely try it. Thanks!

One of our hives swarmed twice this year -- we caught and re-hived the first swarm and gifted these survivors to some friends as a farm-warming present, the second we were too late to catch. Oh how thrilling is this process of the swarm and recapture, of witnessing their strength and cohesion. So looking forward to trying this tart -- we're having a great year for honey already, so looking for every possible way to eat it, savor every drop. :)

I had a hive a couple of years back swarm three times but the third was a dry swarm meaning no queen just left over pheromones on a branch. I too like to give swarms away to new beekeepers.

KB, I got stung. You either try to kill the bee or eventually it will sting you because it has no where to go. It is just part of it and if you get the stinger out quick it is, for the most part, harmless.
