Absurdly Addictive Asparagus

April 16, 2010

This week, A&M welcome special guest Adam Roberts, otherwise known as The Amateur Gourmet, and put him to work making kaykay's Absurdly Addictive Asparagus. Still feeling bruised from his recipe being overlooked for our Best Brunch Eggs contest back in September, Adam grills A&M on their finalist selection process. In turn, they quiz him on why he's called The Amateur Gourmet and how he went from law student to food blogger (from torts to tarts, as reviews for his book have cleverly assessed).

In addition, brunoise is defined (for people who aren't as obsessive as Merrill), Adam shows off his pan-flipping skills, and Amanda talks about the less-than-glamorous trappings of her old gig at the New York Times.

You can see more of the delightful Adam Roberts at, on Twitter @amateurgourmet and in his book The Amateur Gourmet.

What fun! Both videos are really terrific. There is always something to learn from them (I need to deep fry something soon, if for no other reason that to try the wooden spoon trick). The only downside is that both recipes always look so delicious, and it makes voting so much more difficult than if I just picked on impulse.

I made this for a group of 20 ladies who came for a luncheon meeting, and it was delicious!!!
I prepared all the ingredients the night before and 10 minutes before the guests arrived, I started frying the pancetta. When they arrived, the asparagus was beautifully green with a sparkle of orange zest. It was sooo easy and tasty!!!

From now on, I'm going to call it AAA, too. Like that.

I have been reading Adam's blog for awhile. He's got such a great take on cooking, and his recipes and instructions are spot on. I'm currently obsessed with Adam's take on Momofuku's Compost Cookies. YUM
