Nothing makes you feel like a giddy kid on summer break quite like building (and eating) s’mores. From foraging for the perfect stick to the sticky marshmallow on your face and hands that comes from eating with reckless abandon, s’mores instantly transport us to the joyful days of our childhood. This weekend, treat yourself to this campfire classic. And this time, unlike when you were a kid, you can eat as many s’mores as you want.

• Before you get started, brush up on your s’mores history. (Saveur.)

• Get a little fancy and make your own graham crackers. (Food52.) While you’re at it, try your hand at homemade marshmallows. (NPR.)

• Fact: s’mores taste better when eaten with friends. Here’s how to throw a backyard s’mores party. (The Kitchn.)

• Purists, beware: these 10 variations might make a good thing even better. (Serious Eats.)

• For those of you without a backyard and a fire pit readily available, don’t fret. You can still partake in the fun. (Food52.)

S'mores

If you want to take things a step further, make s'mores ice cream or no-bake s'mores pudding cake. And the use of moonshine marshmallows is also always encouraged.
