Here at Food52, we celebrate the home cook and the power of a personal kitchen. We even devote a whole column to avoiding trips to the grocery store. But that doesn't mean we like to stay holed up in our kitchens all the time.

This week, many of us left the office behind with the goal of finding our own summer food adventures. Because sometimes -- especially when traveling -- food is all about its context: how long you spent waiting in line, where you were headed when you pulled off the highway, or how hard it was to reel in the fish. one of the things that make me happiest when I go back to visit california (where I grew up) is a good ol double double!
