Vanilla beans

For a long time if stored properly. A couple of years at least in a glass container, in a cool, dark place.

They must lose some potency, but I've been working with the same vanilla beans that I bought in a spice market in Kerala for well over a year -- they're still amazing, especially compared to prepared vanilla.
