subsititute vanilla for vanilla bean?

Help! Making Burnt Caramel Pudding. No vanilla bean. How to sub vanilla, if poss? Thank you!

You may have already made this, but you should be able to substitute 1 - 1 1/2 teaspoons of good vanilla extract for the 1/2 vanilla bean in the recipe.
