One more question about this recipe before I try it tomorrow for my dinner party: I bought flat cut corned beef brisket with the spice packet incl...

...uded. Am I supposed to cook this recipe with the ingredients list *and* the spice packet? I'm excited to try it - especially the sauce. It sounds delightful

Well, I just got started and decided to toss in the tiny spice packet that came with it b4 seeing this question and comments. Figured more spices the better and it wasn't really much. Looked like some red pepper flakes, a few caraway seeds, mustard seeds , some mini green leafy pieces... we shall see!

I would use only the spices in the recipe. Not all briskets for corned beef come with a spice packet
