I cut the potatoes into same size pieces and bring to boil, then slow boil until I can put a sharp knife into them. If the potato slides off the knife blade, they are done. Then I drain and put in the fridge to chill out. (a cold water bath tends to make them mushy ). When chilled mix with your favorite ingredients and enjoy. I recommend making more than you think you need because everyone will have seconds.
Just boiled potatoes for potato salad last night! Just to add to what others have (wisely) said, it really depends on the size and type of potato. I'd say when I boil potatoes they usually take somewhere in the ballpark of 20-35 minutes. After 20 minutes (15 if they're really small) I start checking them very 5 minutes). Good luck!
I learned this trick after attempts to make potato salad always resulted in mashed potatoes since I would cook to long or just forget about them on the stove.
I dice the potato, put on a sheet pan with olive oil & sea salt. Roast 425* 15-20 min and then make my "roasted potato salad". It's a no fail potato salad recipe and its soooo yummy!
Depends on how much you want to break up the potatoes. Some potato salads use small potatoes that keep their shape and other potato salads call for slightly mashed potatoes. Put the potatoes in water and bring to a boil, then reduce to a strong simmer. Simmer for 15-20 minutes. If you want them to keep their shape then remove them when they are knife tender. If you're going to mash them up more then cook until fork tender
