Mushroom barley soup tastes great, full of vegetables, and barley. But soup is thin, not thick like at deli. Anything thoughts?

Blend a cup or two of the barley and vegetables and add this thick mixture back to the soup. I do this all the time instead of thickening with cream or cornstarch or flour

Does your recipe call for adding a thickening agent, like flour, at the end? That would give it a thicker texture
