Thank you. It's a fruit cake so the cake ought to be fine I didn't know of the icing would go funny?

You'll be fine. So will your cake, which will might benefit from the slight aging. Loosely covered at room temperature is the way to go. If you have a bowl that's big enough, invert it over the cake.
