Why soup ?
Lasagna is filling on its own.
Think a light appetizer like melon and prosciutto,
Or a salad (tomato and onion will work fine).

Italian egg drop soup (stracciatella) might be a good option. Here's a recipe:

I'd go something light with such a heavy entree - some kind of veggie bisque, like carrot or butternut squash?

I like this; I have some leeks in the garden too.

"Braised Leek & Bacon Bisque" has been on my radar for awhile... It only calls for 1/3c cream too so I imagine it wouldn't be too heavy: http://food52.com/recipes/3225-braised-leek-and-bacon-bisque
