Not sure the format of your auction but . . . when I was actively involved in my sons' school's fundraisers, I'd often donate a series of home baked goods freshly delivered over a period of months, e.g., "Wonderful Weekend Breakfasts," in which I'd take to the winner's house a batch of muffins, or Chelsea buns, or scones, etc., chosen to suit them (I'd give three or four options a week or so before the scheduled delivery). I'd include homemade jams with each item. Those were so popular, and there was a lot of competition, i.e., the revenue was always fantastic.
Not sure if that's an option for your auction, but certainly something to consider. Who wouldn't just love to have freshly baked strawberry shortcake delivered for Mother's Day, or a beautiful cherry or apple pie delivered on Independence Day, or a spectacular cheesecake delivered for Easter, or a favorite cake delivered for a special birthday? ;o)
I like this idea. I do much in the area of preparing for the auction as the one who makes and prints off signs, programs and bidding sheets (and helping the rest of the auction team with setting up). But I also love to be creative with a dessert. this idea would enable me to get everything done and save the dessert for a time when someone would really want it (and not when there are a bunch of others to take home that evening). So I think this year I will whip up a gift certificate with some ideas of desserts they can choose on a future date upon which we will agree. Thanks for the advice!
It should definitely be visually appealing and stable for travel, for a start. Also something people probably wouldn't make on their own. A smallish croquembouche, perhaps, if you're feeling ambitious; French macarons are always a winner too.
Depends in part upon who your audience is. Kids or adults? Urban or rural? Chocolate goodies are always good sellers, as are almost any kind of pie. Another aspect is - will the items be sold whole or in pieces?
It depends on the auction audience - are they high end or budget conscious? For higher end benefits a friend of mine donates a chocolate caramel crepe cake - it usually sells for well over $100.00. For a more budget conscious audience fudge works surprisingly well.
Chocolate is always a winner, and these Yucatan Chocolate Cupcakes are easy to put together since it uses a boxed cake mix: http://www.healthline.com/health-recipes/yucatan-chocolate-cupcakes
And depending on the auction, another option is this Pumpkin Spice Coffee Cake. It's a great mid-afternoon snack or early morning treat: http://www.healthline.com/health-recipes/pumpkin-spice-coffee-cake
