pinto beans smell like ammonia

i made a pot of pinto beans and they smell like ammonia I have never had this happen help

There's an older question in the hotline about whether it is possible to oversoak beans. I think that may be what happened to you here - you accidentally over soaked them and they started to ferment. I agree that if they don't smell good they probably won't taste good.
