How to quickly defrost frozen home made meatballs

A few weeks ago, I made home made meatballs and put some uncooked in the freezer. Is it safe that I just defrosted them in microwave and ow Im cooking them in a tomato sauce?

Perfectly fine. Although normally have the meatballs in a ziplock and put that in a bowl with cool running water. Then cook them.
The microwave, even on defrost, tends to cook them a bit...but they're meatballs so it's hard to mess it up.
