What are you slow roasting? Is it 170 Fahrenheit or Celsius? Has it reached a safe internal temperature?
It sounds as if it may have been in the "danger zone" longer than recommended.

From what I've read turkey should never be roasted under 325 degrees. I agree with Stephanie, your turkey was in the danger zone too long.
