I put just too much black pepper in my spaghetti sauce and now there's too much of a bite to it. Is there a way to temper the the pepper a bit?

The only way to truly "remove" spice from a dish is to dilute the sauce with more (unspiced) sauce. You could add other flavors to distract but nothing is going to reduce the pepper.
