A question about a recipe: Nigel Slater Chocolate Muscovado Banana Cake

What kind of chocolate? Recipe just says dark chocolate. Sweetened; unsweetened semi?

Dark chocolate is generally either "bittersweet" or "semisweet", and they are somewhat interchangeable terms as there is little regulation surrounding them. I tend to go for things that say "bittersweet" more often. For this recipe, you can essentially use whatever chocolate you prefer.
