Refrigerating softened butter

I had big plans to make cookies so I left a stick of unsalted butter out on the counter. This was back in December. Changed my mind later that day, put it back in the fridge. Had same plan to bake today, took out the same stick, let it soften, now I don't have time to make the dough. Butter going back into fridge again. So, how does all of this softening, re-refrigerating of butter affect the dough and taste of the end result, assuming I'll eventually get around to baking these cookies? Thx.

Shouldn’t be a problem at all, just be sure it’s wrapped well so it doesn’t absorb fridge flavor

If it didn't melt and doesn't smell funny, you should be fine.
