I bought a fresh turkey this year. The tag says it is good until sometime in December. It has been in my refrigerator since November 20th.

The butchers at the grocery store said that I should just put it in the fridge and it would be good until Thanksgiving. Do you think this is true? I don't want my guests to get sick.

Hi Kim! According to the USDA, fresh turkey should only be stored in the fridge for two days. I'd suggest giving the turkey a texture and smell test, if the skin looks slimy or it smells like rotten eggs, it's spoiled. That being said, you can't smell or see foodborne pathogens, so in any case, I think you may want to be safe than sorry and consider picking up a new turkey.
