Chocolate Q: weight difference in chopped vs chips

The chopped-up chocolate weight requirement is half that of the bagged chocolate chips - wondering why?

Looks like the recipe is requiring about a cup or so of chocolate. Maybe the author found that was a 12 oz bag of chips (sounds like smaller chips and more uniform) and roughly for chopped chocolate (which not uniform at all). That's the vagaries and frustration of a baking recipe that is converted from volume.
