Can I use fresh mushrooms instead of dried?

My grocery didn't have any dried mushrooms. Could I use fresh here? I got fresh shiitake because it was it was a good substitute according to a few sites. Will I need to make any adjustments?

Hi Evan! You definitely can use the fresh shiitakes, only thing you're missing out on is that mushroom ~liquor~ which contains a good bit of umami. But no sweat—do you have veggie stock on hand? You can sub that in for the soaking liquid in step 2.
