Custard didn’t set in refrigerator

Hi, my custard didn’t set even after sitting overnight in the refrigerator, so the filling ended up being a bit runny. Any tips?

Arrowroot can be a bit finicky when heated too long, which can lead to it breaking down. It's also not my ideal thickener when mixing in dairy products because it always seems to turn slimy. I prefer to use cornstarch in those instances, and use arrowroot for non-dairy sauces and such.
