I don't know that you did anything wrong. My daughter tried making these a year ago, and I must say I wasn't very impressed with the results. She did make one change, at my insistence, though. The amount of melted butter the recipe calls for amounts to 2 tablespoons of melted butter divided between 12 muffin cups. That's not anywhere close to enough to prevent sticking, unless you have a really new non-stick pan, and even then I have my doubts. When I make popovers of the ordinary sort, I put at least a full teaspoon of butter (or other fat) in each cup. This recipe would use about 1/6 tablespoon in each, and I hardly think that's enough to do the trick. The results, even when they did come out cleanly, were not spectacular enough to warrant a repeat effort.

Yes I put way more butter in the tin too. There was too much batter for one muffin tin, so I had to make a second batch. I put tiny Guittard chocolate chips in that one. They still stuck, but they tasted much better! They looked like little cow patties without their bottoms. Interesting though, I made muffins in the same tin last week and they stuck too, even though I greased them well. So I bought one of those tins with the removable bottoms and will try that.
