Substitute buttermilk instead of cream?

I have some rhubarb and buttermilk that I'd like to use. Is it possible to substitute the cream with buttermilk?

I have interchanged cream and buttermilk with two different scone recipes and they both turned out very well. Obviously the buttermilk gave more of a tang which was nice too.
