slash rolls before baking or not?

The rolls in the photo appear to have a cross type slash on top of them, but the recipe doesn't say to slash before baking. Please clarify. Thanks.

Good catch. I would certainly slash the dough balls slightly, right after putting them in the Dutch oven. Be careful though, as the Dutch oven will be quite hot.

Slashing these artisan rolls will make them look more attractive, while also giving the top crust more crusty edges. Looks like a good recipe! ;o)
