I currently have no access to halva. Is it possible to proceed with the recipe without that ingredient?

Looking forward to trying this! I'm avoiding sesame right now (because there is a pesticide issue going on), so I was thinking of putting some peanut butter on top and swirling it in.

Didn't know about the sesame pesticide issue. Where is it?
FYI, I have switched tahini and pb for one another in the past with good results.

Thanks, Cranky. I'll post a caution with my answers near the recipe.

LisaK - Yes if/as you probably have access to tahini paste (available in many standard or specialty grocery stores on at online merchants). First make your own halvah (halva, various spellings), then proceed with the cake recipe.
Here's one tried and true recipe for homemade halvah (there are others out there if you want to search more).

Or if you buy online, get halvah there.
