Do you think I could make the batter, refrigerate it and when I went to serve it, top with water mixture and bake?

I want to make this for a dinner party and am trying to think how I can make it ahead. Could I make in the morning and reheat or would the gooey sauce go away? Thanks for your advice!!

Sounds like it would work.
If you bring prepared mixture to room temp before baking, use time as in original recipe.
If you bake straight from fridge, it may take a few more minutes.
