Would a cake pan work instead of tube pan?

Hi Jules, a tube pan works best because getting heat through the center helps the cake cook through evenly and quickly. However a 9 inch cake pan or springform pan will definitely work! And many people like to split the batter into 2 cake pans so they don't have to cut the cake into layers.

My preschooler has requested a chocolate cake for his upcoming birthday and I’m planning to make this cake! Wondering if a regular 9-inch cake or springform pan would work instead of a tube pan, and whether I would need to adjust the baking directions if so?
