I buy frozen butter beans at our local grocers; they're small, green versions of limas.

I usually bring them to a boil and then simmer for 45 minutes, adding milk to replace evaporating water. They're very yummy and I'm thinking of trying them in this recipe. Any cautions?

Yes, I think they would work - I have used different beans for the ones specified in a recipe and it usually works. These are pretty close in type/flavor. Also, the original used a lb of dry beans, which cooks up to 5-6 cups. So use that volume of the beans from the freezer.
