What wine or beer with fish chowder?
Can't find any rec for a whitefish chowder with cream or milk base, potatoes, other veg. What wine(s) do you favor? Or other drink(s)? For dinner this weekend. All ideas welcome.

Maybe Chablis? or Sancerre?

Two more good ideas (I don't serve much white wine, so they weren't top of mind).

Thank you both, HalfPint and Miss_Karen for these drinks rec...yes, something to cut against or balance the cream/butter taste.

Update. I found a good crisp chardonnay (Lola from Pelee Island, though in Canada it's about the same latitude and weather as northern California). Lovely with the chowder and later some cheese sandwiches.

I would do an unoaked chardonnay such as Mer Soleil or a Pino Grigio like Echo Domani. The reason being that you do not want the 'buttery' taste of a regular chardonnay. You want something
to sort of cut the butter/cream aspect. (Hint of a citrus finish.) If you opt for beer, I would suggest a Pale Ale such as Rolling Rock or Bass. But, Coors will work too.

Food & Wine recommends a light, less oaky Chardonnay for chowders.
