You mention a baking/pizza stone at the beginning of the recipe, but I didn’t see further reference to it. Do you recommend baking the scones directly on the stone?

Hi Lisa! If you're using a baking stone, the scones should go on a sheet pan, and the sheet pan should be placed on top of the baking stone.
