Stickiness often results from dough being too warm. There's quite a bit of butter, proportionately, in this recipe. A great way to reduce stickiness in a cookie recipe like this is to let it firm up in the fridge for at least an hour. This gives time for the butter to become harder, which then makes the dough easier to handle.
Another explanation is that the quantity of flour was off, due to differences in the measuring technique used by the recipe developer versus that of the user. If you measure using a scale, that is less likely to be an issue. (I've seen recipes where the conversion was incorrectly stated in the recipe. That should to my mind be the only instance where a dry measure quantity doesn't work.). ;o)
Thank you so much for reaching out! The best thing to do here is to make sure that your hands and your work surface are coated in a light dusting of flour. Make sure to only add a few teaspoons of flour at a time.
