Substitutions for maple syrup?

Are there any good substitutions for certain items in this recipe? Like for the maple syrup? All we have is karo! Or substitutions for anything in the recipe? My first try went well and it tasted amazing

Various liquid sweeteners you might be able to use, based on availability, cost and your preference:
• honey, especially from one flower or
• Golden Syrup (a British product)
• Molasses
• agave syrup (usually not a complex flavor, but good if you want a vegan product)
