That's not an easy question to answer- because there are a few variables. It depends on the pan, to start with, and how conductive it is. How many servings are you making? Takes less time for a single serving size than porridge for four or eight. It also depends on what kind of oats you have- quick cook, thick or thin rolled, Steel cut, Irish porridge, whole oats- you see? The thing is, you need to learn how your pan and stove work together, how long it takes at what heat setting to achieve a boil, how best to maintain the simmer. You will probably toast a few things in the process of learning- I know I did. The stove responds to changes pretty quickly, and you don't tend to lose heat if you have a good induction pan. I found that my small pan for one or two will produce regular oatmeal in about six minutes of simmering. But it takes almost ten in another pan to get four servings. And if my son makes it- it takes about five minutes of cooking, and a couple hours of soaking the pan to get it clean again.
