Nut Allergy Substitution Ideas?

Does anyone have a recommendation on making this without nuts due to allergies? Thanks in advance!

I would simply leave the nuts out! You can use dried fruit like figs or apricots, you could add chunks of chocolate (I would go for extra big chunks), just keep it simple and this would still be traditional!

I think I'd consider roasted soybeans, or perhaps chickpeas to get the texture as well as the protein. Not that panforte is claiming to be health food, of course. Those should hold up to the hot syrup nicely. You can roast your own, or buy them already roasted.

Lori,
That is some impressive creativity! I would have never considered this.

Thank you,
Luke

The nuts add so much to the texture…can you use a mixture of seeds instead? I think you need something hard and crunchy. Pretzels?

Agree, was going to suggest similar replacements for crunch.
If no seeds, consider peanuts (not tree nuts), popcorn, roasted oats or vegetables that would provide a crispy texture.

Pretzels are an awesome idea! I really appreciate this.
